Quietfloor

This is an acoustic floor system designed to improve both the impact and airborne noise transfer through floors. The laminated composition provides maximum performance for minimum thickness and combines excellent sound insulation with all the qualities of a good carpet underlay. It is quick and easy to install and is easily cut and shaped. Overall thickness is just 12mm so it minimises the increase in floor level.
QuietFloor Sound proofing Acoustic Underlay

This product comprises an 8mm layer of chipfoam bonded between a top layer of 5Kg soundproofing mat and a base layer of 3Kg soundproofing mat. The base layer of barrier mat seals and damps the sound coming through the floor, the isolated top layer of barrier mat blocks the sound both ways and the chipfoam core dramatically reduces impact noise transfer.
When laid over timber floors airborne insulation in the order of 43dB DnTw+Ctr can be expected.
When laid over timber floors impact insulation in the order of 39dB LnTw can be expected. (A carpet will reduce this even further).

When bonded over concrete floors impact improvements in the order of Delta LW 42dB can be expected.

When laid underneath a 22mm T&G chipboard deck, with 100mm acoustic mineral wool in the cavity space, impact insulation in the order of 60dB LnTw (or less) can be expected.

Preparation:-
The floor to be treated should be examined and any loose floorboards should be firmly secured.
It is also extremely beneficial to seal the existing floor airtight using either mastic (if the gaps are narrow) or alternatively overlaying the floor with 2 layers of T60 Super Soundproofing Membrane for greater performance.

Installation:-
Quiet-Floor is simply loose laid on the floor. It is essential that the thinner barrier layer is placed to the floor. It is also essential that the sheets are laid in a staggered, brick type pattern, and that they are butted tightly up togeather and up to the perimeters of the room. Our aluminium duct tape can be used over the joins to make them airtight.

When using carpet grippers a strip of the black top layer and foam, the same width as the gripper, should be removed with a sharp knife. The gripper should be fitted and nailed or screwed through into the floor. Some installers add a strip of 5mm deep wooden batten to raise the level of the gripper (as shown).

Self-Adhesive Foil Tape Application Instructions
  • The surface to which the tape is to be applied must be clean and dry. Dust, dirt, oil, grease and moisture on the surface will result in poor adhesion.
  • For best results, before applying the tape, the surface should be wiped clean with a safe solvent, using a lint free cloth. Solvent must be fully evaporated before application of tape.
  • Fix insulation carefully so that slabs or sections abut with no gaps. Open joints will permit localised heating which may in turn affect the adhesion of thre foil tape. Do not unwrap unsulation until immediately required for use.
  • When bonding to an embossed or ribbed surface the tape may not be in 100% contact so adhesion values will be reduced. Allowances must be made for this by using tape of adequate width. THis is a minimum of 50mm on good flat close butt joints. However on angled or contoured surfaces use tape wide enough to allow 50mm either side of the join.
  • Remove tape from roll, discard release paper, align tape centrally over joints and rub down well over the entire area of the tape taking care to avoid wrinkles, folds and undue tension. Avoid touching the adhesive surface as dirt, oils and grease may be transfered and impair adhesion.
  • Allow an adequate overlap of the tape onto itself of at least twice its width. If possible fold back about 25mm of one end of the tape so that when the overlap is made this section of the bond will be adhesive on adhesive.
